Professional Football Player. For ten seasons (1959 to 1968), he played at the halfback, flanker and wide receiver positions in the National Football League with the Baltimore Colts and Atlanta Falcons. Born Clifton Alexander Hawkins, his initial impact on the football field was during his years at South Charleston High School in West Virginia. He continued his athletics on the collegiate level at the University of South Carolina and achieved third-team All-American honors while with the Gamecocks. Selected by the Green Bay Packers during the 2nd round of the 1959 NFL Draft, he ended up with the Colts and would go on to total 125 career regular season games. Hawkins experienced a world championship during his rookie year (1959) with Baltimore. He was inducted into the University of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame in 1970.
