Margaret Jane Crockett was the daughter of John W. Crockett (1753-1834) and Rebecca Sullivan Hawkins (1756-1832). She was the sister of David "Davy" Crockett who died at "The Alamo" in San Antonio, Texas. She married Sidon John Harris (1780-1856) in 1820 in Buncombe Co., North Carolina. Sidon John Harris and Margaret Jane Crockett Harris had at least seven children: 1) Sidon H. Harris (1820-1861), 2) Barbara Harris (1821-1860), 3) Edith Harris (1827-1860), 4) Thomas Harris (1832-??), 5) Margaret Harris (1833-??), 6) Luellen Harris (1836-??) and 7) Sarah "Sallie" Harris (1838-??). She died in Overton Co., TN. or in Missouri City, Fort Bend Co., Texas. (Her burial place is unknown at this time) NOTE: John Crockett & Rebecca Hawkins were married in 1775 in Greene Co., Tennessee (Now Washington Co.) and their first daughter was named Margaret Catherine Crockett (1778-1792). She died at age 14. Margaret Jane Crockett (1792-1867) was born the same year as her older sister's death. Some argue that this was the same person and could not have married Sidon J. Harris. There are too many records showing Margaret Jane Crockett (1792-1867) and it is more conceivable that she was named after her older sister than to say that she never existed.
