PVT. HARRY R. SKOOG Ship Dedicated to Him one of:-the first Long Beach servicemen killed in World war II Private Skoog died July 1, 1943, at Buna, New Guinea. Later in that year a minesweeper was dedicated to the memory of the Long Beach soldier. Fred Skoog, since deceased, father of the war victim, a shipyard worker, attended the dedicatory exercises here. Private Skoog was born in Anoka, Minn., and came to Long Beach as a young boy, living here 13 years. He attended Willard elementary, Jefferson junior and Wilson Senior High.
Buried overseas,the remains of Private Skoog were returned here for reburial. Services will be held at 1 p. m. Thursday in the chapel of the B. W. Coon funeral home. Rev. J. Orville Martin will officiate and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct the military ritual. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memorial Park.
