US Congressman. A member of the Republican Party, he served the State of Pennsylvania's 19th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives from 1975 until 2001. He was the son of former United States Congressman George Atlee Goodling. Following two years of service with the United States Army, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland and earned a Masters in Education from Western Maryland College. He went on to attain his doctorate from Penn State University. Following a two decade period as an educational administrator, of which included the position of school superintendent, he was elected to the United States Congress in 1974. During the course of his career, he fought passionately for improvements to the American public education system and in 1998, the William F. Goodling Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act was adopted. Additionally, he served as Chairman of the Committee on Economic and Educational Opportunities and as Chairman on the Committee on Education and the Workforce.
