US Congressman. He served in the United States House of Representatives from the 10th District of Illinois from January 3, 1973 to January 3, 1975. He served in the United States Army paratroops from 1943 to 1946, rising to the rank of captain. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a LL.B. in 1947 and two years later, received a J.D. from the university's law school. After graduating, he was admitted to the state bar and later went into practice in Chicago with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. He also served in private practice and taught at both the University of Illinois and Northwestern University. From 1953 to 1955, he served as Securities commissioner for Illinois and then served as assistant Secretary of State for two years. He later worked for a hospital supply company from 1965 to 1966. He was a delegate to the Illinois state Republican convention every year from 1951 to 1973. In 1972 he was elected, as a Republican, to the United States House of Representatives and served one term before being defeated for re-election by Democrat Abner J. Mikva. He tried to regain his seat two years later in 1976, but was not successful.
