She is survived by her husband, Stanford Young Smith; son, Edward Smith (Brenda) of Greer, SC; daughter, Emily Murray Smith of Ocala, FL; sisters, Dorothy Norment Simpson (Mrs. Ace), Lloyd Norment Berry (Mrs. Robert); nephew, L. Clark Simpson; nieces, Caldwell Berry Stevenson (Mrs. Steve), Dorothy Simpson Bennett (Mrs. Tom) Pell City, AL; Lloyd Berry Clark (Mrs. Thorn) Boston, MA; Cecil Berry Avery (Mrs. Arnold) Tuscaloosa, AL.
Preceded in death by her former husband, Richard Barry Sample; son, Richard Barry Sample II; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lloyd Norment; sisters, Elizabeth Norment Williams and Emily Norment Smith.
Mrs. Smith was born February 12, 1918 in Birmingham. She attended Loulie Compton Seminary, Lakeview and Ramsay High School. She made her debut in Birmingham, and later lived in Fort Worth, TX. She was a member of Mountain Brook Baptist, Country Club of Birmingham, Association of Junior Leagues and was the first Princess of the Junior League in the Birmingham Christmas Carnival. She was a member of Encores and a Charter Member of the Ballerina Club.
Visitation will be from 4pm until 6pm on Wednesday, August 30, at Johns-Ridouts Southside. Graveside services will be at 9:30am on Thursday, August 31 at Elmwood Cemetery with Dr. Jim Moebes officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials
may be made to your favorite charity.
