SIMPSON, DOROTHY (DOT) NORMENT, 84, passed away January 4, 2007.

She was a life long resident of Birmingham. Growing up on Cliff Road, she attended Lakeview Elementary and graduated from Ramsey High School.

One of the five daughters of Edward Lloyd Norment and Mary Elizabeth Bradshaw Norment, she was a charter member of Holiday Assembly and presented at the Redstone Club Ball. Through the years she presented a tangible example of Christ-like love in her self-less service to her family and her community. She served as PTA president at Mountain Brook Junior High and as regent of Old Elyton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also served as deaconness and as a member of the Guild at Independent Presbyterian Church, where she had been a member since 1950. She was a sustaining member of the Birmingham Junior League and the Birmingham Historical Society. She devoted her life to others, especially her beloved family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Mary Elizabeth Norment Williams, Beverly Lloyd Norment Sample Smith, and Emily Murray Norment Smith. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ace Simpson; sister, Lloyd Norment Berry; daughter, Dottie (Tom) Bennett; son, Dr. Clark (Frances) Simpson; and grandchildren, Chris, Jeb, and Andrew Bennett, and Melissa, Daniel, Lauryn, and Kaki Simpson.

"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him." -I Thessalonians 4:13-14.

Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 P.M. on Sunday afternoon at Valley Chapel in Homewood. The Funeral Service will be at Independent Presbyterian Church on Highland Avenue at 2:00 P.M. Monday. Contributions can be sent to the Kate Douglas Smith DAR School. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood.
