Allen C. Minnix, 86, founder of A. C. Minnix & Sons, builders and developers in the Washington area, died at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda on Monday following a stroke.
Mr. Minnix, a lifelong resident of Washington, graduated from Central High School, earned a degree in engineering from Cornell University and served as an officer in the Quartermaster Corps of the Army during World War I.
He entered the construction business with his father and later founded his own firm. It built numerous residential, commercial and church properties in the area. Mr. Minnix also was a founder and director of the Progressive Savings and Loan Association, which later merged with Perpetual Savings and Loan
He was a life-member of the Columbia Country Club. a member of the Association of the Oldest Inhabitants of the District of Columbia, a member of the Friends of Great Falls Tavern, and a past member of the Racquet Club and the Washington Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Yardley Minnix Manfuso, and two sons, Allen C. Jr., and Donald K., all of Chevy Chase, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind.
