Gilbert was the fourth of five children born to Balla (Polston) and Cassius Sullivan.

Uncle Gib passed away while I was still a little girl. He was one of my favorites. He always was laughing or smiling and could make me laugh, too. He was very talented in an acrobatic sort of way. He'd broken both legs (years before I was born) and could walk on his hands. He was also a painter. I still vividly remember him painting the ceiling in a house my parents bought in May 1959. He didn't use a ladder! Gib used stilts as easily as if they were part of his own legs. I was in awe.

When he passed away, he had two young sons, Gilbert Keith and Veral. It's been many years since I've seen them, but we all remember them and miss them a lot.

His brothers who have since passed away are Earl and Huston. Still living are his brother, Roy, and sister, Fern. He also has five siblings from his father's second marriage, two of whom pre-deceased him.

The above was written shortly after creating the memorial and many things have changed in ten years. We have since been in contact with Uncle Gilbert's children including his stepdaughter Belynda Dunbar. But since then, Roy, Rodger and Terrill have passed away along with Gilbert's step-brother, Jimmy Collins.
