Professional Football Player. Born in Los Angeles, he was an end and defensive end for four seasons (1946 to 1949) in the All-America Football Conference and National Football League, with the Chicago Rockets, Detroit Lions, Boston Yanks and New York Bulldogs. During his college years, he was a standout player at the University of Southern California and was named All-American. Heywood was an officer in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, the only pro-football player to achieve this distinction. In 34 career AAFC and NFL games, he had 64 receptions, for 905 yards, with 6 touchdowns.
