Pleasants County, West Virginia – Biography of Jacob Adams.

Jacob Adams was born in Pleasants County, W.Va., in '34, and was a farmer in same county when he enlisted, Aug. 1, ‘63, at Parkersburg, W.Va., as a privatein Co. G, 4th W.Va. Cav., 8th A.C.; he was sick several times and cared for in company's quarters, and in December, ‘63, he had leave of absence for eight days from Clarksburg, Va., and returned to that place on expiration of furlough; he was discharged, March 8, ‘64, at Wheeling, W.Va., and Feb. 21, he re-enlisted in Co. F, 14th W.Va. Inf.; his final discharge was received June 27, ‘65, at Cumberland, Md., the only battle in which he had taken part being that of Morefield Junction. Comrade Adams married, in September, ‘66, Eliza J. Bailey, who was born in Pleasants county, in'40, daughter of Austin and Mariah (Elifritz) Bailey, both now deceased. Mr. And Mrs, Adams have five children: Mary M. (Boley), b. ‘67, Austin, b. ‘70, Jacob, b. ‘74, Sally, b. ‘78, and Joseph, b. ‘81. Comrade Adams'parents, also both deceased, were John and Mary (Williamson) Adams. John Adams served in the war of ‘12. Another of his sons, Joseph Adams, was for four years in the 7th W.Va. Inf. Several cousins of Comrade Adams were also in service, as likewise several cousins of Mrs. Adams. Comrade Adams has represented his township as School Trustee for several terms; he receives a pension, owns a farm of 51 acres, and his postoffice address is DeLong, Pleasants County, W.Va.

Jacob & His wife, Elizabeth "Jane" Bailey Adams are listed on the same stone. Jacob is the spouse of a direct descendent of William Bailey who founded this cemetery on his property in the early 1840s or earlier.
