Civil War Medal of Honor recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Corporal in Company F, 19th Maine Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Bristoe Station, Virginia(October 14, 1863). His citation reads "Capture of the flag of the 26th North Carolina (C.S.A.) ".
