Jane was the daughter of James and Pheobe nee Ricketts Sheridan.
The stone shows her maiden name spelled Shirridon - her marriage certificate (1839-Jefferson County, Indiana), history books and family records show her name spelled Sheridan.
A portion of Jane Sheridan Anderson's obituary reads as follows:
" She Has Fallen Asleep"
Jane Sheridan was born in Indiana Feb. 5, 1817, and was married to W.G. Anderson October 20, 1839. Five Children were born to them: William Harrison, Francis M., Millard F., and Mrs Mary E. Payne all of these and the husband of her youth are living in Colfax and James Madison, who was a soldier in the Civil War and died April 15, 1865, a few days after Lee's surrender, of wounds received in the battle of Fort Blakesly. She had no brothers (surviving) but one sister, Mrs George See, younger than herself, who lives at Weston. She leaves nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs Anderson settled in McLean Co. in 1855 and two years later bought land on which Colfax was afterwards started. They helped organize the first congregation of the Christian church in this part of the country, of which the present Colfax church is the outgrowth. There were thirteen charter members, of whom, so far as known, there are only two survivors. Mr. Anderson and Dr. Green, now of Washington. Meetings were held in various schoolhouses in turn, as the membership was scattered over several townships. They saw the country settled up and then the town established on their land. Their farm home was apart from town, but in the corporation, and here they continued to reside until three years ago. Later they moved into an elegant home in the midst of town which they cherished and watched over as the effort of their lives. Mrs. Anderson's name, along with her husband's, is on a number of deeds which conveyed the principal part of its lots to purchasers. She entered quite as closely into his plans for the commercial and moral welfare of the town. Her husband was fond and proud of her as they walked down life's decline together he gave her credit, on every occasion, for a large share of his success in life. Her children were devoted to her. She was of a quiet kindly manner that won the affection of everybody.
