Artist. Known as the "American Renoir". Many of his paintings are housed in Museums in New York, Paris and London. Served as a volunteer ambulance driver with the American Ambulance Field Service during World War I, and was awarded the Croix de Guerre in the Vosges Mountains and at the Battle of Verdun. He befriended author Ernest Hemingway after the war, and traveled Europe with him.
