Army Pfc. Ornsby-Adkins was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia. Ornsby-Adkins died in Salman Pak of wounds suffered when his vehicle was struck with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire during combat operations. Jay was born in Perth and moved to the United States with his mother when he was 5. He attended Amador High School where he wrestled before graduating in 2005 from Independence High School in Sutter Creek, California. He worked a variety of odd jobs including a stint at the local fireworks factory before joining the Army. He graduated from basic training in 2006 where he earned the expert badge for grenade, sharp shooter rifle and marksman in pistol. Jay is remembered for his friendship and kind smile. On March 9, 2007, he was deployed to Iraq. He wanted to fight for his country and for our freedom and there was no talking him out of it.
