One of only a few confederate soldiers buried on Staten Island. He entered the army at Mobile in 1861. His regiment, (the 21st Alabama infantry) was at the battle of Shilo.Here,of the 650 men from the unit that were engaged, 200 were either killed of wounded. Shortly after, he was detached to the signal corps. He took part in Braxton Bragg's Kentucky campaign. Bragg was ultimately defeated and Kentucky fell into Union hands.After the war he went to work for Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, the railroad magnate, in New York. He was in charge of westbound freight traffic on the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad. His office was at 413 Broadway in Manhattan. He died at the age of eighty.
