US Congressman, Presidential Cabinet Secretary. He was elected as a Whig to represented Connecticut's 2nd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1945 to 1849. He later was apppointed as United States Postmaster General in the administration of President Millard Fillmore, serving from 1852 to 1853.
