Robert grew up in the cities of Champaign, Mohomet and Rantoul Illinois. He had a genius IQ of 137, and a complicated family life led him to start failing in school. He moved to Rock Island, Illinois to attend middle and high school, living with a foster family. He wanted to join the military, following in his father's footsteps, so he joined the Junior ROTC program. He graduated in 2003 from Rock Island High School, but at 6'2" and 250 pounds, was too heavy to join the Army. He went to work loading packages for FedEx, and by April 2006, he was able to enlist. He took his training at Fort Leonard Wood and became more muscular. Liggett was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Benning, Georgia, and worked with explosives as a Combat Engineer. Robert liked NASCAR and often wrote his own poetry. He died in Rustamiyah, Iraq, from injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident. He is survived by his mother, Roxanne Daughterty of Rock Island; his father, Dean A. Liggett of Rantoul; a sister, Elizabeth Eyer, Rantoul, and an aunt, Maggie Liggett, also of Rantoul. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, his maternal grandparents, his paternal grandmother, and a maternal uncle.
