Naturalist, painter, author of "Peterson Bird Guides." His ashes, as noted in Jan/Feb 2001 Bird Watchers Digest, are buried on Great Island, at the mouth of the Connecticut River, where a wildlife preserve has been named for him. There is also a RTP Institute of Natural History in his hometown of Jamestown, New York. His cremated remains were buried in 3 different locations: Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme, Connecticut, where his wife is also buried; Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer, New York, next to his father and grandparents; and Great Island at the mouth of the Connecticut River.
