Birth: 1840
Death: May 5, 1863

Civil War Union Army Officer. Son of Bvt. Brig. Gen. Justin Dimick. Served in the Civil War as 1st Lieutenant and commander of Battery H, 2nd United States Regular Artillery. During the Battle of Chancellorsville, his guns were positioned on the Plank Road, where, on the night of May 2, 1863, his artillery pieces shelled the area where Confederate Generals Stonewall Jackson was just acidentally shot by his own troops. The next day his guns were again positioned on the Plank Road, this time to stem the tide of the attacking Confederates. When his infantry supports retreated in the face of Confederate General Jim Lane's oncoming North Carolinas troops, his battery was exposed and needed to quickly retreat. Lieutenant Dimick was shot in the spine was he was helping to bring his guns off the field. The wound proved mortal, and he died two days later. His remains were brought back to Portsmouth, where they lie next to his father. (bio by: Russ)
