Actor. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was a distinguished performer best known for winning the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor for "All the President's Men" (1976) and for "Julia" (1977). A veteran of over sixty films, his credits include "Hour of the Gun" (1967), "Once Upon a Time in the West" (1968), "Comes a Horseman" (1978), "Parenthood" (1989), "The Paper" (1994) and "Crimson Tide" (1995). As a stage performer, he won an Obie Award for Best Actor in "The Iceman Cometh" (1956), a Tony Award for Best Actor in "The Disenchanted" (1959) and also won an Emmy Award for Best Actor for his performance in the TV movie "Inherit the Wind" (1988). He died of cancer at age 78 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was the son of actor Jason Robards Sr. and actors Jason Robards III and Sam Robards are his sons.
