Royalty. Wife of Süleyman the Magnificent and mother of Selim II, also known as Roxelane. She was born by the name Aleksandra or Anastasia Lisowska in the region that is now Poland and was brought to Istanbul as a slave. She joined the harem of the sultan who soon fell in love with her. Forsaking tradition he lived a monogamic relationship with her and even married her. She was believed to have bewitched the sultan and that he was defeated at Vienna as a punishment by god for this.
