U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Lawrenceville School, in 1897, from Princeton University, in 1901, attended New York Law School, (1901-03), was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Newark, New Jersey. He was recorder of East Orange, New Jersey, (1907-08) and during World War I, served as a volunteer on the staff of the United States Food Administrator, Washington, D.C., (1917-19). In 1925, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-ninth, Seventieth, and Seventy-first Congresses, serving until 1931. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he served as chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, (1932-33) and resumed the practice of law until death at age 57. Also his son John F. Fort, was the 44th Governor of New Jersey.
