Clarion Democrat, 6 Oct 1904 - John Adam Shoup was born in Germany 26 Jun 1835. At the age of 19 he emigrated to America and settled in Madison Twp., Clarion County, where he resided until his death. He was twice married, the first time to Caroline Bonnett, by whom he is survived by five children, Lewis, George, Henry, Elizabeth, and Katie, and the second time to Rachel Summerville, by whom he is survived by two children, Harvey and Wallace. Although he had not enjoyed the best of health for nearly two years, the end came suddenly at last. He departed this life peacefully on Saturday evening, September 17, 1904, aged 69 years, 2 months, and 21 days. Besides the seven children named above, he is survived by a wife, three brothers, and eighteen grandchildren. He was a consistent member of the German Reformed church and always seemed to take delight in the words of the Psalmist, "I was glad when they said, let us go up to the house of the Lord." Funeral services, Rev. Waugaman officiating, were held at the home Tuesday September 20, 1904, at 10 o'clock a.m.
