A retired Miller County official, farmer and father in law of a well known Jefferson City business man died Thursday at a hospital in Lebanon.

L.J. Mayfield, 81, of Ulman, father of Mrs. John Adcock, Boonville road, died following an illness in the Long Hospital.

Mrs. Mayfield was born Jan. 16, 1876, at Homeville, Ark. During World War I he served as chairman of the Miller County draft board and was chairman of the Liberty Loan drives at that time. He also served as sheriff of Miller county for four years and as a deputy sheriff for eight years.

Other survivors include his wife, Mrs. L.J. Mayfield; three other daughters, Mrs. F.E. Fendorf, Mrs. Hadley Haines and Mrs. Wade Humphrey, all of Kansas City; two sons, Asa Mayfield of El Reno, Okla., and Bert Mayfield, St. Louis; one brother, Ollie Mayfield, Atchison, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Keyes, Holland, Kan., and Mrs. Emma Sipe, Springfield; along with 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 230 pm Sunday at the Ulman Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Cox, pastor, officiating. Burial will be conducted at the church cemetery with graveside services under the direction of the Iberia Lodge AF and AM.
