Another Old Citizen Gone - Died, in this city, on the morning of the 23d of May, 1867, Dr. William S. Wallace, in the 66th year of his age.
In the death of Dr. Wallace our city has lost a useful member of society; a man above suspicioin of this world; a man of genial and social disposition, one who loved all, and who was beloved by all who knew him. As a physician, his judgment was seldom erroneous; he was unusally prompt in attending to the calls of professional duty, and was ever kind and sympathic in the sick room.
Dr. Wallace was a native of the city of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and received his diploma as doctor of medicine from the Jefferson Medical College of that state. He commenced the practice of medicine in this city in 1836, and attained a remarkable degree of success and popularity in his profession.
On May 21, 1839, he was married to Miss Frances J. Todd, a most amiable, lovely and accomplished lady, who still lives to lament his loss. Dr. Wallace served a term as pension agent under an appointment from President Taylor, and also filled other important offices of trust.
In 1861 he was appointed a paymaster of the United States army, a position which he held at the time of his death.
