Argentinean President. Born in San Miguel de Tucumá, Argentina, he studied law graduating from the University at Buenos Aires and became a teacher of economics there in 1857. He was a member of the house of representatives in 1859 and Minister of Government for Buenos Aires, in 1866. In 1874, he was elected as a National Autonomist the 8th President of Argentina, serving until 1880. While in office, Argentine development was improved, he allowed European farmers ease to get terrains, railroads were expanded and immigration numbers were doubled. After his term, he served in the Argentina Senate from 1883, until his death at age 48 on a ship returning from medical treatment in France.
