RUTH JOHNSON, 99 of Ogallala, NE, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020, at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

Ruth was born June 21, 1920, at her grandma Harrop's home at Eustis, Nebraska, to Bert and Vera (Harrop) Hinton. She attended a rural country school before attending high school in Stockville, where she was valedictorian of her graduating class of 1937. She then attended Kearney summer school to become a teacher.

On September 10, 1938, Ruth married Clarence Johnson. The couple moved to Cheyenne, WY, for a year to work on a dairy farm. They returned to Farnam, NE, to farm until 1953 when they purchased the John Deere dealership (Hi-Line Implement) and moved to Eustis, NE. After Clarence's death in 1981, Ruth moved to Ogallala in 1985. Their union was blessed with five children, Terry, Barbara, Carolyn, Doug, and Scott.

Ruth was an elegant woman, gifted in so many ways. She was an accomplished seamstress and made countless garments for herself and her family over the years. She had an impeccable style and always carried herself well. Ruth also loved to quilt. Her denim quilts being among the most celebrated of her works. As a mother, she was very giving and generous. Ruth was a fabulous cook and made it a practice to make her children's favorite meal for birthdays. When her children had friends over, she always cooked for them, and nobody ever left hungry. She also loved to travel, and collected nativities from her destinations, over 120 in all. Ruth was also an avid reader, loved to sing, do laundry, and garden. It is difficult to summarize a life of over ninety-nine years, but Proverbs 31:10-31 seems to capture the spirit with which Ruth lived her life.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents; sons-in-law, Bob Schwenk and Denis Bluel; brothers, Tedd Hinton and Glenn Hinton; sisters, June (Tedd) Arent and Roberta (Melvin) Dunn and sister-in-law Alice Hinton.

Survivors include her children, Terry (Gwen) Johnson of Ogallala, Barbara Schwenk of Arvada, CO, Carolyn Bluel of Lakewood, CO, Doug (Nancy) Johnson of Houston, TX, Scott (Deb) Johnson of Elkhorn; brothers, Joe (LaVonne) Hinton of Willows, CA, Jack Hinton of Broomfield, CO, sisters-in-law, Darlene Hinton of Colorado Springs, CO, Roberta Hinton of Pueblo West, CO; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.
