Distinguished Georgia authoress. Named for her paternal aunt. She was the daughter of Judge Eugenius A. Nisbet and Amanda Melvina Fitzallen Battle Nibset. Graduate of the Georgia Female College in Madison, GA. On November 18, 1856, at the age of 20, she married William A. Reid of Eatonton, GA. After the death of husband William, Ophelia lived with her son Frank, who operated a jewerly store in Manhattan, NY.

Married in the city of Macon, on the 18th ultimo, by the Rev. Mr. Breck, Mr. Wm. A. Reid, of Eatonton, and Miss Ophelia E., daughter of the Hon. E. A. Nisbet, of Macon."

On July 6, 1878, the Savannah Weekly News began publication of her serial stories entitled "Mrs. Dare" and "My Mother's Daughter". On November 23rd of the same year, she presented a new serial story entitled, "Afterward," followed by "Muffit" in 1880, "Only Nora Heartley" in 1881 and "The Harold Brothers" in 1883. All were very popular. In 1889, she published a novel "Two Children". She is often mentioned in her sister's, Laura Josephine Nisbet Boykin's, Civil War Diary, "Shinplasters and Homespun."

Their 5 children included:
1 & 2 children - twins died in infancy.

Eugenius Nisbet Reid - b. 13 Dec 1860 Macon, GA, d. Washington, DC 16 Feb 1899. Lawyer; Clerk in the Department of the Interior, Washington,DC. m. Maggie Blayliss.

Marian Reid - b. 1866 GA; m. William Arthur McEwen of Mt. Vernon, NY.

Frank S. Reid - b. 1870 Eatonton, GA. d. 1915 NYC.
