He also suffered severe frostbite on his feet. He was airlifted to Hawaii, then later Ft. Campbell, KY. He died at U.S. Army Hospital in Ft. Knox KY, of a subdural abcess caused by shrapnel in his brain (source: death certificate). He was 19 years old.
