French Royalty. He was the younger brother of King Philippe VI. He was the Count of Alencon, Chartres, and Perche. Between April of 1314 and September of 1336, he was married to Jeanne de Joigny. His wife died in September of 1336, and the couple had no children. In December of 1336, he married Maria de la Cerda. The couple had four sons and a daughter. His brother made him a lieutenant general. A proven brave soldier, he was killed in the Battle of Crecy. Originally, he was buried with his father at the now-demolished church of the Couvent des Jacobins in Paris, but his remains relocated to this site.

Gravesite Details

His 14th century effigy shows a man with balding hairline and wrinkles. The nose on the original sculpture was repaired at one point and does not match the original stone.
