Dr. John Berger died at his home in Derby, Feb. 24, 1894, aged 55 years and one month. He came to Kansas from Warren County, Iowa, in 1872, in company of his father, and settled on a claim east of Mulvane. In connection with improving his claim he practiced medicine. Since leaving the farm he has lived in Udall, Clearwater, Elk county and in Derby, in all of which places he practiced his profession.

He was a member of the A.O.U.W. at Udall. His principal disease was bronchitis. His body was buried at Garrett cemetery, seven miles east of Derby, on Sunday the 25th inst. It was the intention of the Udall Workman to take charge of the funeral, but on account of a misunderstanding they did not come. About a dozen of the Workman went from Mulvane and conducted the funeral according to the ritual of the order.
