He first married Rosa Mapp on 18 Nov 1890 ( d. 9 Jun 1898). By 1900, He was a widower and living with his mother, older sister and brother-in-law and working as a bookkeeper. He then married Mary Nevin Brumby on 29 Oct 1907. He later became a journalist for the Macon Telegraph, accountant and government examiner in Washington, DC. His mother lived with he and his 2nd wife after the death of his father.
