Son of Apollos and Emelin (Hallett) Cassell. Married Sarah Perkins. He enlisted in the 13th Indiana Infantry on June 19, 1861 and was mustered out on Sept. 5, 1865. He was a member of GAR Post #540 (General John A. Logan) in Evanston, Illinois. He is buried in the GAR Post #540 plot at Rosehill Cemetery. Interestingly, his wife, Sarah, is also buried in the GAR Post #540 plot, but not beside her husband.
