Lou E. Schantz, 83, of Springfield, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at his residence.

He was born June 23, 1924 in Springfield, IL, the son of Lou L. and Marie E. Stevens Schantz. He was formerly married to Norma Jean Forgas. His parents preceded him in death.

Mr. Schantz was an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance, retiring after 35 years. He was a member of Church of the Little Flower. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII and received the WWII Victory Ribbon and Asiatic Pacific Ribbon-One Star. He was a member of the Rail Golf Course. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family, and was an avid Cardinals and Bears fan.

Survivors: two sons, Mark L. (partner, Vani Phifer) Schantz and Bradley C. (wife, Mary) Schantz, both of Springfield; three grandchildren, Marcus (wife, Miyuki) Schantz, Ryan Schantz, and Conor Schantz; one great-granddaughter, Allison Schantz; one sister, Betty J. McGann of Springfield; one brother, Robert R. (wife, Jeannie) Schantz of Tucson, AZ; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2007. Services: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Church of the Little Flower, Reverend Chuck Edwards officiating. Burial: Calvary Cemetery. Staab Funeral Home of Service.
