Daughter of Oliver Bliss Hayes and Sarah Clements Hightower. Wife of George Washington Shields, Sr.

Laura and George were married in a double ceremony on January 24, 1855 in Nashville, TN. The wedding took place at Rokeby, the residence of Laura's parents. The second couple was Laura's sister, Corinne, and Will Lawrence.
