COL. BEVERLY A. THORNTON
His Remains Interred in Rose Hill Cemetery Yesterday
The news of the death of Col. Beverly A. Thornton, as announced in the Telegraph yesterday, caused the profoundest sorrow among the wide circle of friends who admired and loved him in this city.
The remains arrived in Macon from Columbus Saturday night.
The funeral services were conducted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Lee Ellis, on Georgia avenue, by the Rev. F. F. Reese, rector of Christ Church. The funeral took place at 10:30 o'clock a.m.
The remains were interred in Rose Hill cemetery.
The pall bearers were: Judge A. L. Miller, Col. Isaac Hardeman, Judge G. W. Gustin, Mr. Washington Dessau, Capt. J. L. Hardeman and Mr. Buford M. Davis, all members of the Macon bar.
Thus has passed away one of Georgia's brightest legal men as well as one of her purest, most upright and most valued citizens. Col. Thornton was known and beloved throughout Georgia and the South, and the news of his death will be heard with deepest regret everywhere.

From Wife, Georgia Lamar Thornton's, CSA widow's pension application on line in the GA archives virtual vault, they married in Athens, Clark County, GA on 22 Nov. 1849. He enlisted in the 3rd GA Cavalry under Col. Martin J. Crawford. He was captured in Kentucky 1862 and then exchanged. After the exchange, he was appointed enrolling officer.
