Businessman and Senator. He was the eldest son of a merchant. He worked in his father's business, M.J. Jenisch, and was very successful. Under his direction, the company expanded into banking and eventually insurance. He was the co-director of the insurance component of the business. In 1794, he married Catherine Dorothea and had thirteen children. In 1798, he became senator in his hometown. Because his business provided connections to France, it aided him in the city's political issues. By 1811, he was representing Hamburg as an envoy in Paris and a year later became a member of the Corps Legislatif. At the time of his death, he was one of the richest men of the city. His children built the Jenisch House which is now a branch of the Altona Museum, the city palace which exists today as a club to promote business and science and the Jenisch Free School.
