Mary Evelin Martin was the fourth child born to Joseph Martin(1844-1927) and Philomene (nee Isabelle, 1845-1925) on 28 Mar 1869 in Negaunee, Marquette Co., MI(documented). Baptized in St-Michel-de-Archange-de-Napierville, Quebec Prov., Canda on 07 Apr 1869(documented). Mary Evelin moved with the family back and forth between Negaunee, MI and the Quebec Prov., Canada between 1869 and 1876. Then permanently, back again, to Delta Co., MI by 1877. She married John Baptist Shy(1860-1904)[French name: Jean Baptiste Chaille] on 18 Nov 1884 in Escanaba, Delta Co., MI. The couple soon moved to Roxton Falls, Quebec Prov., Canada where their first 2 children were born: daughter, EvelinJr(Fred C.)Boddy--1885-1964 and son, Dona(Alvina Stenbeck)--1887-1924) before returning permanently to Escanaba, Delta Co., MI, the eventual birthplace of their other 5 children: Eva(Eugene L.) Caufield(1889-1928); Mathilda(Oliver J)DeRouin(1891-1957); John Baptiste III(1892-1922); Albert(1894-1936); and Florence(William L.)Cleary(1896-1972). Mary Evelin became a matriarch, of sorts, for the Martin family after her parents died. Mary Evelin died in 1947 from complications of a stroke.
