John then wed Catherine Agusta Dever on Apr. 9, 1877 in Lambertville. Together they had eight children: Joseph in 1878, Susannah Elizabeth in 1880, Mary in 1882, Catherine Agusta in 1884, Julia in 1886, John Michael Jr. in 1888, Francis Patrick in 1890 and Margaret in 1892.

John travelled around the country supervising paper factories.
