Major League Baseball Player. Born Owen Lacey Friend in Granite City, Illinois. He was an infielder for five seasons (1949 to 1950, 1953, 1955 to 1956) with the St. Louis Browns, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed his most successful season in 1950 when he had 88 hits with 8 home runs and 50 RBIs. After retiring as a player, Friend managed in the minor leagues for several years and served as a coach with the Kansas City Royals, during their inaugural season in 1969. In 208 career games, Friend had 136 hits with a .227 lifetime batting average.

Gravesite Details

This columbarium crypt was placed here by his daughter as a remembrance, but his actual ashes were believed to be scattered at the family farm in Newton, Kansas.
