Spc. Rush "Mickey" M. Jenkins of the Grassy Creek area of Henry County, Virigina was a 2004 graduate of Magna Vista High School where he took part in wrestling. Growing up, Mickey played football for Drewry Mason Middle School. He went to work for Miller Brewery for quite a while, but decided the best thing was to go where he could further his education and have a good, outstanding career in the service. Mickey and his twin brother, Michael, along with another brother and a sister were raised by their father after their mother died at age 34 from heart problems. They all spent a great deal of time with their grandmother whom they loved, always giving out hugs constantly on each visit. His father taught him to play guitar when he was about 10, and they paired up often for jam sessions. He was known as the red-headed hulk. Mickey died on his 22nd birthday after his "Bradley fighting vehicle ran over a deeply embedded IED, (Improvised Explosive Device) in Iraq. Mickey was in the 3rd Infantry Division of the Army. He was preceded in death by his mother; his grandmother, Sherry Pophal; grandfather, George Hall; and great-grandmother, Rebecca Jane Jenkins. He was awarded a posthumous Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He had been in the Army about 18 months and back in Iraq only about two weeks after being home on leave. He was 22.
