According to Mabel's Diary, she was born in Webber, KS and left there with her parents and other family members in the Spring of 1903 and went to Montana. Her father looked around there for a few weeks and then decided to go on to Washington and there found 320 acres about 20 miles from Pomeroy in the foothills of the Blue Mountains.

She met and married John R. "J.R." Zumwalt in Weiser, Idaho on July 15, 1914. Mabel lost her only child born prematurely January 13, 1915.
..J.R. passed away in either Long Beach, CA or Tuscon, AZ January 19, 1944....it is unknown where he is buried. ..Mabel was living in Hesperia, CA in June of 1974 when she was tricked and against her wishes driven to Oregon by her niece, Mary Anna Vimont. The plan was for Mabel to live near her sister, Anna Laura Vimont but her dementia was so advanced and she lived her last years in a nursing home.
