..Lena Maud Markle, eldest child of George and Mary Markle, was born April 13, 1872, at Asawah, Iowa and passed away December 1, in St. Francis, Kansas.
..The family moved to Jewell County, Kansas, while she was young, where she grew to womanhood.
..She was united in marriage, March 2, 1897, to Francis Fielding Sweet. To this union was born two daughters and one son, the son dying in infancy.
..She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Lafferty, Danbury, Nebr. and Mrs. Opal Smalberger, Oberlin; two brothers, Tom Markle, Glascow, Montana and Charles Markle of Canton, South Dakota; three sisters, Mrs. Eva Watson, Bronson; Mrs. Mabel Zumwalt, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Anna Vimont, Eugene, Oregon; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
..Funeral services were conducted December 5 at Jay's funeral Home in Danbury by Rev. Warner Taylor. Interment was in the Danbury- Marion Cemetery.

..Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at Jay's Funeral Chapel in Danbury for Mrs. Lena Sweet, 85, who passed away at a rest home in St. Francis, Monday December 2. Interment will be in the Danbury-Marion cemetery.
..She had lived in Marion for many years until her health failed and she was taken to St. Francis where she could receive care.
..She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Lafferty of Danbury and Mrs. Opal Smalberger of Oberlin; three sisters, Mrs. Eva Watson, Bronson; Mrs. Anna Vimont, Eugene, Oregon; Mrs. Mabel Zumwalt, Long Beach, Calif; two brothers, Tom Markle, Glasgow, Mont.; Charles Markle, Canton, South Dakota.
