Daughter of Dr Israel Hildreth and Dolly Jones. Sarah was born in Dracut, Massachusetts. She married in 1844, Major General Benjamin Franklin Butler in Saint Anne's Episcopal Church in Lowell, Massachusetts. They had four children, three of whom lived to adulthood, Paul, Benjamin (Ben-Israel) and Blanche.
