He served with Company F 7th Wisconsin Infantry, which was part of the famed Iron Brigade, with his brother Richard Fourre. He saw action at the Wilderness campaign and Spotsylvania and was wounded May 12, 1864 at Laurel Hill, VA. His brother was wounded the same day. He was transferred to Alexandria, VA where he was part of the VRC (Veterans Reserve Corps).
