Tech. Sgt. Alfred A. "Joe" Alsop, U. S. Air Force retired. Passed away Nov. 6, 2007, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. He was born on May 29, 1929 in Ramey, PA, to James H. and Virginia M. (Croyle) Alsop. Mr. Alsop retired from the Air Force after 23 years of service, and in 1990 he retired from the U. S. Postal Service. His Air Force assignments took him to various bases in the U. S. including Hawaii and Alaska. Mr. Alsop was very active with the Pelican Pickers Dulcimer Club and sang with the West Gate Chapel Choir on Elgin Air Force Base. He enjoyed traveling for many years researching his family genealogy. While stationed in Colorado he enjoyed elk hunting and in Alaska moose hunting. While in Alaska he attended the University of Alaska to learn rock identification, and enjoyed many field trips and camping with the rock club. Mr. Alsop was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James H. Alsop; and his infant daughter, Paula Dawn Alsop. Alfred is survived by his wife E. Louise (Thompson) Alsop; son Mark Alsop; sister Margretta Van Scoyoc of Moran, PA, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and his special cousin, Beverly Tilson. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
