William D. Townsend, 66, died at Robert Long Hospital, Indianapolis at 4:00 pm on Friday, January 2, 1965 after a four month illness. According to his death certificate he died of Medullary Failure (kidney failure) immediate due to Cerebral Glioblastoma (Brain Tumor) in which he had symptoms for about 3 months of headache, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness and weakness in the body, memory and speech difficulties, and visual changes.

He was born in Erie Township and was the son of Charles Marion Townsend and Rosetta May Chambers Townsend. He had 7 siblings: Harry Edward, Mabel M., Lola, Erba May, James Franklin, Arthur A, Amy, and Darrell K. Townsend. A nephew, John Townsend, was raised in the household, and he was considered like a brother by the Townsend siblings .

He married Esther Lena See on July 22, 1922. They had a total of 8 children: George A., Howard Edward, Maxine, Mary, Jane Ann, Esther, Kay Francis, and Susie. He resided in Indiana all his life and was a retired laborer by occupation.

Services were held at the Drake Flowers Funeral him at 3:00 pm on Monday, January 5, 2013. Maj. Elgie Koughm officiated the service. He was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru, Indiana.
