Major League Baseball Player. Born Robert Rudolph Marquis, after serving in the US Navy during World War II, he began his baseball career as a centerfielder in the New York Yankees' minor league system. For five seasons, he played in the minor league system with a .278 batting average and was traded to the Cincinnati Reds on August 28, 1952. He made his big league debut with the Cincinnati Reds on April 17, 1953 and played one season with a record of 12 hits, 9 runs scored, 2 home runs, 3 runs batted in and a .273 batting average.
