Poet. Born in Liptovská Sielnica, Slovakia, he began at an early age writing poetry and prose, with his first poem being published “New Genus” (1922). His work was based on artistic movement capturing the surrealism contradictions of local contemporary villages and towns. At the end of the 1950s, his verses had reflections and meditations on different aspects of human life from personal and broader societal perspective. His poetry had reached a new stage in the 1970s, alternating between remembering motifs and reflections of life. Some of his works included “Fire on the Mountains” (1947), “My Homeland” (1953), “Romanian Spring” (1954), “Maturity” (1963), “Testament” (1972) and “Full bowl” (1976). His poetic work has been translated into the languages of Russian, Ukrainian, Hungarian, German, English, French and Czech. He died at age 74 in Bratisla, Slovakia.
